Philanthropy is not typically part of school curriculum. Similarly, it’s not often taught at home. The Priceless Heart Project is designed to teach and promote giving through Social Emotional Learning and Giving Goals.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a process that teaches students to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, develop and maintain positive relationships and make responsible decisions.
The Project includes an introduction and four lessons on SEL along with daily Giving Goals. Teachers will be given suggestions on how to incorporate the lessons into their curriculum.
Giving Goals are donations of new and up-cycled goods, collected and stored in a Resource Center for school counselors and graduation coaches to provide to students in need. These goods can be toiletry items, hygiene products, toys, school supplies, clothing or laundry materials.
Many teachers and counselors spend personal money to support their students. While this is noble, a centrally located Resource Center with access to these goods would be more effective and would allow teachers to provide greater support to more students.
